Wishing Michael Burke every success as he takes the next step in his cycling career
When I joined Welland Valley CC in July 2012, to participate in the Bruntingthorpe Races, I never expected to have achieved, or improve and develop as a person in the way I have. From meeting people to traveling around the country, every step of the way has been great, and something I would do all over again very happily. I think I can honestly say it’s been the best 10 years of my life so far, including having had my two sons most recently.
When looking back it’s hard to believe how much I knew or didn’t know! From learning about racing the road, track, time trialling, cross, bikes, basic mechanics, lots of new places and race circuits to trainingpeaks and how a race mind works. All the people, of which there are just too many to list, I would like to thank them. Especially those who offered help, encouragement, training advice, bike mechanics and sometimes just someone to call for advice, as I don’t think reaching an Elite level would have been possible without you all and your support.
It’s been a great journey and I would be honoured that I will be able to stay a 2nd claim member and connected to the club. Right now, I am looking forward to racing with VeloElite RC and the continual quest for that development in the person and athlete that cyclists crave.
