Whizz Kids Racing League returns
Good evening Whizz Kids, just a reminder that we’re up and running on Saturday afternoon and for the first time since the end of 2019 I can announce that it’s round 1 of the 2022 Whizz Kids racing League (supported by Alden Electrical). We will be on the Go-Kart track at Bruntingthorpe and first race will be at 2:00pm. Given the hiatus with racing and the riders and parents who have joined since the last round in 2019 it’s probably worth just taking a couple of minutes to explain what this is all about.
The Racing league started a few years ago and it a series that runs across the year and is restricted to Whizz Kids, plus occasional guests. It is a multi-discipline series and we’re looking to get seven or eight rounds in, roughly one per month. The series will incorporate bunch racing, time trials, hill climb and cyclo-cross and will be on tarmac, trails, grass and anything else we can come up with. Within the series we will be operating age and gender sub groups and there are points available for each event. The scoring will be 100pts for first, 99pts for second and so on and the league positions will be taken from your best races, so if you miss an event, or just have a bad day you will safe knowing that your worst scores will be disregarded. Awards will be given out at the end of the year at the early December session where we’ll have a prize presentation.
It’s likely to be the first “proper” race for some riders, don’t worry as you’ll be in the mix with riders of a similar age and the races will be short. At each event we will be looking for all riders to get at least two or three races or attempts in the case of time trials.
We will also be using electronic timing courtesy of Ian to make sure we’re as accurate as possible.
All whizz kids are welcome, and that includes balance bikes as well, everyone can have a go.
The site will be open from about 1:45pm on Saturday and there will be a warm-up before racing kicks off proper. The forecast looks better than the weekend just gone which is a bonus. I’ll send out and specific site protocols or conditions before Saturday but for now make sure your bike is right, your kit ready and we’ll see you on Saturday.
