The fourth and final Team Race Night at Bruntingthorpe was poignant and dramatic.

As the 60 riders assembled on the start line, a minute’s silence was observed in memory of club member Mike Vybiral; followed by a round of applause.

Details of how club members can pay their respects to Mike and /or make a donation in his memory can be found on an earlier Facebook post.

As the racing got underway, there was still plenty to be decided in terms of both team and individual results.

Unfortunately, a heavy crash early in Race 2 saw a rider on the ground; with first aiders quickly in attendance – and, subsequently, an ambulance crew.

Racing was halted by the commissaire to allow riders to regroup, although a number stayed at the scene of the accident to provide support and direct rider ‘traffic.’ (see note at bottom)

When racing resumed, Ed Grandidge again proved the strongest rider in Race 1 and took another victory for a clean sweep in the series. He was followed home by Hans van Nierop and Dom Switzer.

In terms of WVCC first claim members, Hans van Nierop was the individual series winner on 162pts, ahead of Josh van Nierop on 143pts. Sprint lap winners (runners up in brackets) were: Ed Grandidge (Gary Roberts), Rob Moore (Simon Askham) and Dom Switzer (Hans van Nierop).

Race 2 saw a first victory for Andy Deeks; coming home ahead of Dave Reay and Patrick Stone. In the overall individual competition, Andy Deeks finished on 167pts, with Dave Reay on 160pts.

Sprint winners were Patrick Stone (David Yarnall), Harrison Fay (Eleanor Humphries) and Andy Deeks (David Reay).

Race 3 saw Ben Brant chalk up his second victory ahead of Gary Ashwell and Dennis Smith. In the individual competition, Charlie Simpson was top dog over the series on 152pts, with ben Brant on 148 and Dennis Smith on 123pts.

(NB – The individual results are provisional. We are still attempting to work out the team points following the implications of the crash that saw a number of riders with a DNF after helping at the scene. More details of the team prizes to follow as and when).
