Please see the race report just in from Michael Burke from the Pulse Mega Cross event this weekend.
Yesterday I travelled to the West Midlands to ride in the Pulse Mega Cross Event in the Malvern Hills. I had actually picked up a bit of illness last week so I had not done much at all this week to try and recover enough in time to ride.
Despite rain, conditions favoured faster racing this week with everyone being able to select a more intermediate tyre tread with the ground fairly firm. It was a relaxed atmosphere at the start being an out of season event which was great to ease the starting nerves.
Following the start, the race strung out and once the field was established, I found myself in a group of 5. The pace just became a bit too much after halfway through though and I was ultimately dropped but being able to keep them in sight at an agonisingly close distance but not being able to bridge back on being at my maximum almost till the finish.
Being such a short circuit and the quality of the field yesterday, I knew on past performances there would be a chance of not making the lead lap. With two laps to go though I could see the leaders on one of the switch backs and I knew putting in anything I had left I would not be caught. Pleasing to say I was the last one to finish on 11 laps.
14th Overall and 6th Senior, a great result for me in a high-quality field.
