‘Cyclist’s Special’ – our local roads in 1956 from the BFI

Take a look at this stunning 15 minute ‘short’ from the archives of the British Film Institute.

It tells the story of a day’s cycling round the lanes of south Leicestershire and north Northamptonshire.

Made in 1956, it features keen cyclists from north London and Watford taking the train to Rugby  ‘Midland’ (there were two stations in Rugby back then) before heading east to explore our stunning local countryside.

See how many villages you recognise; spot the bonk (of the cycling kind) and marvel at the bygone idea of a pint on the club run.
