What makes a Welland Valley Rider travel 100miles early on a Sunday morning to ride a road race on the Welsh borders? Clue it was the first race organised by Ludlow Brewery Cycling Club and the prize list included stacks of the sponsor’s wares.
Course was an undulating 9 mile circuit on quiet roads amongst some of the most beautiful scenery to be found in the UK although after 5 rapid laps all Bunny wanted to do was sit in the village hall HQ and have a nice cup of tea and a sausage roll.
This was another age related LVRC event and meant Bunny riding with riders in a lower age group than his own. As usual Steve Tucker from Derby CC broke away early on and at such a pace that the bunch declined, or were unable to, chase in a concerted manner so he romped off to win on his own to be followed later by the whole bunch sprinting on the fast flat but narrow finish road, Rob O Connor won the sprint with Bunny coming in 3rd and winning his own age category.
In Bunny’s words “Worth the journey?
Well we were thirsty!”
