Hans Van Nierop and James Moore raced the Midlands XC MTB Champs on Sunday at Kirton Off Road Centre, Lincolnshire, an old quarry that has now turned into a MTB and off road 4×4 centre.
Hans describes the action:
“This was my first time at riding a regional MTB (actually my 1st time in a BC “Open” MTB) event and the course was certainly a lot more technical than anything I had ridden previously.
After a couple of sighting laps, I decided it would be better to start towards the back of the grid, whilst James was on the front row.
James made a great start in 2nd place and maintained that until taking the “B” line on one of the technical sections by mistake, allowing the 3rd place rider to jump ahead.
The course allowed very little opportunity for overtaking as it was probably 85% singletrack, with some severe looking rocks and brambles lining the side of the course.?? The 4 mile circuit was completed 5 times, taking around 20 mins per lap.
After just short of 1.5 hours, James crossed the line in 3rd place, whilst I came home in 20th in the Vets Category”.
Well done both, and thanks Hans for a cracking report.
