Colin’s Grand Depart 29.06.19

Colin Jones is preparing to ride the 1st stage of Tour de France in Brussels. He writes…

“Approximately two years ago my son Luke joined Welland Valley Whizz Kids. Thanks to his love of riding and racing I started to join him on the Sunday Club runs and he encouraged me to go along to Dean Barnett’s training sessions on a Wednesday evening and after a lot of encouragement from other Club members last year I took part in the LCXL’s Novice races.

During the summer last year a close friend of my wife’s was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer and I was going to be 50 this year so I decided I would set myself a challenge. So , on 29th June 2019 I am going to be riding the 1st stage of the Tour De France in Brussels for Prostate Cancer UK.
My training buddy or “wingman” Marc Henderson, also a Club member, has been riding alongside me for the last five months helping to prepare me for the long ride ahead. So far we’ve taken part in two sportive’s for CFC (Cyclists Fighting Cancer) one being 63 miles and the latest being my first 100 miles, which we completed last Sunday.
Whilst Marc won’t be with me in Brussels without his constant support I would not have been able to take on the challenge ahead.
It anyone at WVCC would like to make a donation to Prostate Cancer UK they can do so by following the link below:
Any donation would be greatly received and JustGiving sends your donation straight to PROSTATE CANCER UK so that they can put your generosity to good use!
Thank you for your support!”

Good luck Colin, we hope it goes well.
