Martin Webster and Bunny competed in the Pinvin Road Race today near Worcester today (Sunday). Martin was second in the D category, and Bunny won in the F category.
Very well done both.
Martin describes his race:
“I broke away after about a mile of the 8lap race two guys from Solihull joined me plus a rugby lad, within a lap one got dropped and half a lap later so did another. After two laps Rob Pears bridged across to us, he’s the current over 55crit and RR champion. He brought more strength to our breakaway and was super strong on this windy day. With two to go we dropped the remaining Solihull lap and with 1lap to go we caught and passed the EFG cat race which Bunny was driving hard on the front of chasing down a break. On the last lap we both realize we were not going to be caught but Rob caught me out with a blistering attack up a small rise, when I responded I got a little cramp so set about limiting my loses finishing 2nd at about 30secs. Bunny’s race finished next with our race finishing over 5mins down to us”.
Not to be outdone, Bunny describes a great day in the saddle:
“This was the third race in a season long competition for “seasoned” riders. Over 40 fairly flat miles in a stiff breeze. 2 riders broke away from the start and one other joined them later after disappointingly latching on to faster riders from another race to gain an unfair advantage. Despite “verbal encouragement” from Bunny there was no sustained chase and the breakaway created a 50 second gap. With 6 miles to go Bunny made a determined effort on his own and slowly reeled in the three escapees with just over a mile to go. Not expecting to be able to outsprint them after his lone chase, and as one of the three was Dave Hughes currently a world team pursuit champion from the Track. They must have been tired as Bunny went past all three to increase his lead in the overall competition adding this win to previous 1st and 3rd”.
