The club kit of yellow. red and blue was back in the action at Darley Moor today.
This time it was the turn of experience as the days racing was the League of Veteran Racing Cyclist promotion.
Phil Rayner took to the start line in his 45th racing season, a fantastic achievement.
In a combined Over 40 and 50’s race, the pace was fast from the off in the Harold Nelson Memorial race.
As the field battled to stay in the wheels on the exposed damp traffic-free circuit Phil soon found himself in a break of five riders,
The five were soon out of sight, out of mind and went onto contest the victory.
Phil secured a fantastic 3rd in the sprint, more importantly first over 50 years old.
Next Sunday Phil swaps from being a racer to being an organiser as he promotes the LA FLECHE WALTONNE RR, round one of the national series of Percy Stallard.
The racing will start on the outskirts of Husbands Bosworth from 10:00am next Sunday.
The prestigious Mick Arnold Memorial Trophy – Mick was a club stalwart volunteering for many decades – will be award to victor in the Over 60’s event.
