Whizz Kids Mini Tour de Welland

The last Whizz Kids family ride of the winter was completed without the threatened rain making the wet roads any wetter. Last nights rain had raised all the rivers in the Welland Valley to flood levels and there was plenty of water on the road along with plenty of potholes to avoid. The route today rolled out of Great Bowden as promised and took the road out to Welham then towards Cranoe, turning towards Slawston and Hallaton before the climb up to the snowline on the ridge behind the village and a pause near the summit to capture the great vista over the valley, back on the road it was over the summit down to Slawston again before the Ski Jump down to Welham where we retraced our tyre tracks back to Great Bowden. Our route today was 24.5km, or 15¼ miles. The route and profile can be found at http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/1970922638
Thanks today to David for taking the front of the ride, to Dean, Ian, Chris and Marc for marshalling the riders. Special mention to Luke who rode to the start today and was riding back home as well, hopefully you are safely home.
The next Whizz Kids session will be at Welland Park on 24th March and will be Round 2 of the racing league, the skills time trial. Final thanks today goes to Neil at George Halls Cycle centre not only for the continued support of Whizz Kids but for the rear mudguard for my bike, I can recommend these, I had a dry drive home. All good!
