Jen bags another record! It’s the weekend TT round up

Welland Valley CC’s testers were in action this weekend.

On Saturday afternoon, Jen Clegg, Gary Ashwell and Jonathan Durnin raced the VTTA East Midlands 10 on the A10/3 Mapperley course near Nottingham.   A super event on a warm day with light winds, and lots of local riders.

Jen Clegg reports:

“The VTTA (East  Midlands) 10 on 25/4/26 returned to the A10/3 course that had been buffeted by that hooligan headwind just 2 weeks earlier, resulting in DNS for 25% of the entrants. This time the temperature was perfect & the air still, so 76/82 were finishers. These included pro star Josh Giddings (22y) of Lotto-Intermarche who won in an impressive 17:22 – we have yet to hear whether that was a course record. Deb Hutson-Lumb was fastest female  on Actual (21:51); Jen Clegg was first Female on Age Adjusted Time (AAT – 17:39).

The day also saw 3 new age records, for Jen Clegg (24:38), Richard Oakes (18:43) & Mike Twelves (19:39).

Jon Durnin said he would be happy with anything that started 22, so must have been pleased with 22:04 which bodes well for the season. Gary Ashwell (24:42) had a good day too.

East Midlands VTTA are planning to use the new CTT Live electronic timing system at their last race later in the summer. This will report final results on AAT for individuals and teams that were recorded by hand on the day but are missing from the current results report. Note that VTTA prizes on Age Adjusted Times only go to members – so do consider paying the relatively small fee to join”.

Congratulations Jen!

On Sunday morning,  Diego Patteri, Hans Van Nierop, Josh Van Nierop,  and Jason Williams competed in the Round 2 of the Northants & District Cycling Association 10 on the Caldecott course, organised by our friends at Rockingham Forest Wheelers.

Jason Williams reports:

“I almost stayed in bed as I was feeling tired from our clubs big gravel 100k ride and a few vitamin B recovery drinks on Saturday…. However, the thought of wasting £16 was motivation enough to get up and pull my skin suit on … A bit of my usual faffing in the shed with my bike and with my perception of time being unreliable, I put the bike on the roof rack and drove to the Rocko HQ. Grabbing my number and I was ready to ride to the start… Time still refusing to slow down for me meant I had a pre TT effort to make it to the start with less than ten minutes to go!
3..2…1..go!.. Everything changes as the switch in my head clicks to race mode… Ride as hard as you can until it’s over, it’s going to feel uncomfortable.. it’s meant to hurt, how hard can you push….
It’s a good course for me with a mixture of undulating roads.. and a fast descent.  Some fast times with a good mix of TT and road bikes … I was almost a minute slower than last summer on the same course but other riders also posted times slightly down.. perhaps a wind affected event, difficult to say for certain… “

Hans stopped the clock at 24:02, with Jason at 25:26, Diego at 26:27, and Josh at 2704.  Fastest rider was Paul Pardoe with 22:14.

Thanks to Phil Wilkinson and the team at Rocko for a super event.

Results:

Don’t forget Sunday’s 25 Mile TT on the Kibworth Course, and also the 5+5 Tur / Hallaton / Tur TT on Tuesday 5th May.
