Check out this cracking report by Michaela Latham from the second TT in the Round Robin TT series, organised by our friends at Kettering CC:
I joined the club last year after my husband suggested it as a great cross-training option to complement my main sport of running (with Wigston Phoenix RC). After a few chain gang sessions and tackling just one Time Trial on the Kibworth course, I was completely hooked. The competitive side of me kicked right in, and I officially signed up as a member for the 2026 season with one clear goal: tackle more time trials.
Fast forward seven TTs later, and I found myself lining up on the start line of the Lamport 10.
- The Start: A bit of a rubbish start, unfortunately. Just as I was being pushed off, a van decided to pass by. Despite the distraction, I managed to spin up to speed and settled into a solid rhythm.
- The Outward Leg: I definitely felt the crosswind testing me, but I felt strong. I stayed tucked in, pressed on, and felt good—until a moment of total distraction. I looked up, suddenly noticed the roundabout, and nearly crashed! (Entirely my own fault, I admit).
- The Recovery: After a few choice words to myself, I refocused and got right back to the job at hand: chasing down targets and hunting that elusive sub-30-minute mark.
- The “Milly” Motivation: Right about then, Milly glided past me looking effortlessly fast. My immediate thought? “Yep, I definitely need a new TT bike for Christmas.”
- The Return Leg: The ride back seemed to take forever, but having riders ahead of me to chase down kept my legs moving and my mind focused.
- The Verdict: Official Result: 29:30 sub 30 minutes achieved I’m happy 😃 🎉
Topped off with a well-earned cuppa and a slice of cake, I’d say it was a pretty fantastic day out. Thanks to everyone for the support, and I’m looking forward to the next one (hopefully with fewer roundabout scares).
Thank you Michaela for a cracking report!
- WVCC’s Hans Van Nierop topped the times with 23:12, followed by Rocko’s Chris Fowler (on a road bike) and WVCC’s James Moore tied with 23:20.
- WVCC’s Millie Pinnock was fastest woman with 26:53.
A big thank you to Andy King and his team for a warm welcome, a super event and the tea and cake afterwards.
Next week the Round Robin series visits Rockingham Forest Wheelers on Wednesday 8 July, and Ratae RC on 11 July.
