Our route planner Richard Heald writes after reccying some of the route yesterday –
Spring Gravel 100k Saturday 25th April at 8.30 from the green in Great Bowden.
I’ve nicknamed it the un-peaky blinder because it’s based round the urban waterways of Leicester with a fairly flat middle section.
After heading out on a familiar route we soon pick up the urban waterways of Leicester, reminiscent of The Peaky Blinders.
At the far end of the route it’s a more natural landscape with some stunning views over Bradgate Park and Copston reservoir.
The route back then hits the urban landscape and waterways taking in some of Leicesters often overlooked heritage. It’s then a short blast across the cycle lanes of Leicester before we take the old roman road back towards Harborough.
As this is the first long ride of the year, (for me anyway!), the flat central section and mix of urban cycleways will hopefully be easier on the legs.

This will be an unsupported club ride for WVCC members and friends from other local clubs. It is intended to be suitable for all off-road bikes from ‘cross bikes to gravel and mountain bikes. Please bring the usual spares to deal with any visits by the Puncture Fairy or minor mechanicals and some form of puncture protection is recommended for our off-road rides such as tubeless tyres with sealant or self-sealing inner tubes. If riding narrower tyres or inner tubes please use a bit more pressure to avoid pinch or sidewall punctures.
