It was a still, cold and misty morning that greeted testers at Medbourne, laced with a fizz of nervous excitement as WVCC launched the 2026 championship with a hard rider TT.
The Startsheet mixed up regulars, bright young things and a returning stalwart or two. Grandees graced the HQ, making sure everything was in order, and Cafe Durninho got ready to rumble with post race builders tea, croissants and cake.
Taking the glory for a popular win as fastest Welland rider was Maciej Suchocki. Always lighting up a TT HQ with a warm smile and encouraging word, Maciej has been knocking on the door of a TT win for a little while, working hard under the direction of coach Simon, and had to dig deep to beat a rampaging Aubrey and hardrider specialist Plewsy.
Maciej explains:
“The weather forecast for Sunday morning wasn’t bad, so I was looking forward to first club Time Trial of the year. I’d been working hard all winter under the supervision of my coach Simon Ward, figures looked good, my shape was much better than three months earlier, so I woke up on Sunday morning full of motivation and hope for a decent result.
Eighteen riders showed up at the start, it turned out to be much colder than expected, but a warm welcome from other WVCC riders, the organizers and my coach helped.
After 20 minutes of warm up and few final tips from Simon I was ready to go. Surprisingly first hill felt easier than usual, I managed to maintain good power numbers all the way up. The decent to Stockerston was a pure pleasure followed by my biggest fear, Knob Hill. I managed to hold good pace to the top of the hill, then recharged my battery on few up and down sections. Final climb to Hallaton went quite well and I was ready for my favorite part of the course, decent to the finish line, where I emptied my “tank”.
After cooling down I went back to HQ to check results and I couldn’t believe that I was the fastest WVCC rider, 2nd overall with course PB (beat my previous best by 55 seconds). I’m racing since 2021, and it was my first Club Victory, so it was very emotional and happy day for me.
Congratulations to all, special thanks to my coach and all who helped make this great event happen”
Maciej stopped the clock with 26:11, followed by Aubrey Elmer (also the fastest club RB rider) and Matt Plews.
Fastest woman was Milly Pinnock 29:43. Fastest overall was James Bacon with a rapid 22:55.
