Go Jamie!

We’ve been pleased to support Jamie Kershaw this year with our Youth Development Scheme and he hasn’t disappointed. Here’s his end of year report.

First of all I would like to thank everyone in the club for supporting me over the years. 2024 was my last year racing as a first claim member for the club as now that I am a junior I am moving onto Beeston Cycling academy.

I enjoyed my time racing in yellow in 2024 and it was a mixed year of racing with doing TT’s, circuit racing, the FNSS and, to finish the season, cyclocross. In doing all these events representing WVCC I actually did 62 races over the year which was a bit of a surprise. Some of my favourite races this year were the ones at Mallory which were really fun and it was great to see so many people turning up to them and it was always fun to have a good race against everyone.

My final road season as a youth was really fun with having raced quite a few nationals this year and I think my favourite national was north-west tour which is at the end of the season. We decided to camp like we have done for the past few years and it was great as we had quite a few people staying in the same campsite. For me this year I feel like I improved the most at the Kingdom national 2 day event in Scotland, this was a race where I attacked quite a few times and sat at the front for most of the race which at nationals on tight circuits I don’t tend to do.

For the end of my season we ended the year doing cyclocross which felt different as I was racing against seniors and u23 riders, which was a good experience and I have had a lot of fun this year with all the races some being muddy and some dry. I only did one cyclocross national this year and that was derby which was an interesting event and very difficult. Next year I hope to see some of you throughout the year at Time trials but I will be in the Beeston blue kit.
