Welland Valley CC Spring 100k Gravel Ride – Sunday 14 April

Once again it’s hipster time. Flared handlebars and moustaches and goatees at the ready…

The spring gravel ride will set of from Great Bowden at 8am on Sunday 14 April. The route has been carefully chosen to avoid softer ground after 6 months of almost constant rain. The route heads north for sector 8, the first gravel sector at Thorpe Langton to Stonton Wyville, up to sector 7 north west onto the Via Devana roman road (the Gartree Road) onto narrow tarmac and gated roads through Rolleston to Skeffington and sector 6 through to Tilton. Then it’s on narrow roads again via Launde Abbey and Braunston to sector 5 through to Manton. Then it’s the highlight and longest gravel section –  sector 4 – a full circumnavigation of Rutland Water including the peninsular and a cafe stop at Whitwell. The route then heads south to Wing and West to Ridlington for sector 3 to Belton and south through Alexton to pick up sector 2 to Horninghold, the gated road to Blaston and heads to the final gravel sector above the climbing bridge. Then it’s the run in via Weston and Welham Lane for some quick vitamin B recovery drinks at the Shoulder of Mutton.

This is a club ride for members and friends from other local clubs. We will split into groups if numbers allow and the steady group will be a no-drop group.

Flared handlebars, moustaches or goatees are not required. The route will also be suitable for non-hipsters on cyclocross bikes or MTBs.

We plan to meet at 8am on the green in Great Bowden. Some form of puncture protection is recommended for our off-road rides such as tubeless tyres with sealant or self-sealing inner tubes. If riding narrower tyres or inner tubes please use a bit more pressure to avoid pinch or sidewall punctures.

Please let us know if you’re coming so we can organise ride groups by bike type and speed.

To be added to our off-road WhatsApp group please message Adrian Killworth or email your mobile number to offroad@wellandvalleycc.co.uk
