Andy Poulton reports from Sunday’s 5 mile tt.
Down the not so mean streets of the 5 mile dash from Hallaton to Tur Langton the club’s doughty testers saw off the championship season in style, enjoying coolish, dry and calm conditions – in fact nothing to trouble the mind other than the Alpe de Tur Langton, 500 metres of finishing hill designed to laugh at those (your correspondent….) who’d started the post-season pie-diet a little too early.
Graham Doe continued his stellar end of season form, dipping under 11 minutes to win and Jon Durnin (another rider from Supercoach Simon’s stable) finished just a handful of seconds behind.
Milly Pinnock scorched to the Women’s win and was 3rd in the Roadbike category, won in a rapid time by Rhys Thomas.
It was also great to see the successful return of Matt Plews after recent knee worries and a particular pleasure to admire the apparent sang froid of Adrian Killworth arriving at the start in a horribly wrong gear after a warm-up mechanical to find Dave Birch counting down, “5,4,3….” Simon Ward, practising what he preaches, scored his course PB.
Several gluttons for punishment went on to Misterton for cyclocross racing later in the day, while this glutton went home to the post-season pies. And thus another season ends.
Thanks as ever to George, the timers, volunteers and marshalls – without you this event and this year of time-trialling could not have happened = and in particular to Roger Kockelbergh who oversaw this whole mullarkey.
See you at the Boxing Day 10.
