Road Race Preview

On Sunday Welland Valley Cycling Club promote the prestigious AA Brown Road Race, sponsored by AA Brown Engineering Ltd, Market Harborough.

Around 60 competitors will cover 39 miles, 14 laps of a dynamic triangular circuit on the outskirts of Walton, near Lutterworth. The circuit is very spectator friendly, family and friends will get plenty of opportunity to give vocal support as the peloton passes through the finish line on Mere Lane, just a short walk from the Walton Village Hall, the race HQ.

The action kicks off at 10am.

The competitors will face 42 mini efforts as they sprint into and out of the junction, positioning in the peloton will be crucial. Over the last decade the event has seen lone victories and mass bunch sprints. Riders to look out for and showing ‘form’ recently are Michael Burke, Michael Cowland, James Richards and Oscar Heslop.

At least nine Welland Valley members will battle for the AA Brown Trophy, an annual award for the first Welland Valley CC member to cross the finish line.

Organiser, Phil Rayner commented,  “I’m really pleased with calibre of the riders, it set to be a cracking event. Many thanks to the team of volunteers from Welland Valley Cycling Club and friends for their loyal support. Special thanks to Martyn and Vincent Brown, AA Brown Engineering Ltd who have supported the event for over 3 decades.”
