Saturday afternoon saw the Whizz Kids decamp to the picturesque Foxton Locks for the latest round of the Whizz Kids racing League supported by Alden Electrical. This round was the hill-climb taking part on the old gravel road up from the wharf up to Foxton village, some 470m uphill with a nice little false summit half way up. Apart from a brief shower at sign-on the riders enjoyed perfect weather and all riders managed multiple runs (one literally) in order to get the best time that will count towards the league points.
During the afternoon some of the parents also raced the hill and we had an unofficial Generation event for a bit of fun, although the way the parents performed it was clear that they were not there just to make up the numbers, talk about competitive.
Anyway some of the highlights on the super afternoon were:
- There were more girls than boys racing this week
- Emilia was super consistent making her first three runs with Identical times
- 18 runs on the hill were inside 2 minutes
- Steve was the only Fell Runner today and managed a magnificent time of 1:55 (16th quickest of the day)
- Willow was the youngest rider today and really got stuck in
- Evan was so keen to get a good time that he made 7 attempts
- Fastest Whizz Kid was Rory with 1:22 (Last year’s best was 1:37)
- Charlie was best at demolishing the start gate
- Nate also beat last years time with a 1:52 this year compared to 2:13 last year
- Martha and Emilia were brilliant at helping on the start line even if a couple of riders went very early
- Fastest overall was Jon Durnin with 1:16( but only 6 seconds quicker than Rory) – be very worried for next year Jon.
- Best combined Generation time was 3:08 from Jon and Nate
A full list of times is available at Time Trial 30 START SHEET IFoxton Hillclimb 2023
Thanks go to all the parents for encouragement and assistance and special thanks to Jon and Sophia for timekeeping the event. Our next events are the final Roadrunner event at Mallory on Thursday night and we’ll be back in action in two weeks for Whizz Kids for the Ride For Rosemary event at Misterton Hall on 26th August which will also have another chance for parents to get involved, details to follow.
