Timson Trophy

On 29th February 1944, Flying Officer Cyril Timson – a member of Welland Valley Wheelers and a former pupil of  Robert Smyth Academy – took off in a de Havilland Mosquito to attack an industrial complex in German occupied France: the aircraft did not return. Cyril Timson was 22 years old and is buried in the Military Cemetery at Grandcourt in northern France.

In 1948, the Timson family gave permission for the ‘Cyril Timson Memorial Trophy’ to be awarded to the fastest rider on handicap over 25 miles. A trophy was paid for by public subscription and The Timson Cup is competed for, annually, up to the present day, on a handicap basis.

The 2023 competition for the prestigious  Timson Trophy took place on Wednesday as part of the interclub 25 mile time trial competition. We are delighted to announce that the competition was won by Jax Roberts. Many congratulations to Jax, that’s quite an achievement.
