Chris Dainty reports on the first Team Race Night at Bruntingthorpe

The club’s first Team Race Night at Bruntingthorpe produced some superb team (appropriately enough) performances and outstanding individual efforts.

Almost 40 riders made it to the start line for the three races over 60, 55 and 50 minutes – depending on speed.

Josh van Nierop’s Team Yellow (Josh, Chris Orfeur, Andy Deeks, Ellie Humphries and Kev Willet) took the honours in Race A, from Carl Dyson’s Team Blue; with Ed Grandidge’s Team Orange just a point behind.

Team scores (adjusted for varying team numbers) were 65pts, 58 and 57.

Individual race winner was Chris Orfeur, who benefitted from a bold move on the final lap as the favourites ‘cat and moused’ for too long. Rhys Thomas claimed second; with Ellie Humphries in third.

Sprint winners and runners up were Carl Dyson (Ed Grandidge) and James Moore (Chris Orfeur).

In Race B, Austin Smith’s Team Green (Austin, Dave Yarnell, Ashley Easton and Steve Coulam) were clear winners ahead of Dave Wilson’s Team Purple and Stuart Dawkins’ Team Red.

Team scores (again adjusted for unequal numbers) were 66pts, 59, 52.

In the individual competition, Steve Coulam produced a stunning ride to cross the finish line first ahead of Huw Wilson and Austin Smith.

Sprint winners and runners up were Austin Smith (Dave Reay) and Stuart Haycox (Ashley Easton).

Race C brought a narrow victory for  Dennis Smith’s Team Yellow (Dennis, Steve Latham, Jade Mobbs, John Abbott and Sophie Alexander over Ray Taylor’s Team Blue by 103pts to 91pts.

Jade Mobbs was in fine form to take the individual win, ahead of Mike Sirett and Dennis Smith.

Sprint winners and runners up were Jade Mobbs (Mike Sirett) and John Abbott (Dennis Smith).

Many thanks to race director Andrew Weatherby, scorer Phil Rayner and all our volunteers for making the night such a success, and also to Fabia, Beth and Sarah from our hosts Cox Automotive .

A reminder to all riders that the next race is July 19. If, for any reason, you are not able to make it on the night, please email Chris.dainty@hotmail.co.uk as early as possible to allow for adjustments to be made to the teams.
