Welland Valley CC Spring Gravel Ride

On Good Friday Sixteen Welland Valley members and friends set out on a day that promised to be warm.

The route took in the more rideable sections of the Grand Union canal towpath and much of the River Soar on a traffic free route through many of the riverside parks in Leicester. It was hard to believe at times that it cut through the centre of a large city as it felt quite rural and quiet by the river and the canal. There was a brief visit to the cobbles of  Castle View (used in the Leicester castle Classic race) before  leaving Leicester via the Great Central railway cycle path and rejoining the canal before heading back via the intermittent gravel and tarmac of the Via Devana roman road (now known as the Gartree Road).

Our next epic of-roaders will be the WVCC sportive on Saturday 21 May which has both 100k and 60k off-road routes available and the 100 mile off-roader on Sunday 12 June.
