Four Welland Valley riders headed north of the border this weekend for the second round of the National Mountain Bike series.
The course at Newcastleton, just over the Scottish boarder from Kielder Forest included trails that make up the 7 Staines network. A course with more climbing than the course at Bradford last week but not as technical but still enough to make it interesting and challenge; set in a beautiful location the course was enjoyed by all the Welland riders.
First up on Saturday was Max Hale riding in the Sport race, Max powered round the course to finish an impressive 16th and wishing there was more riding like this nearer home.
First to ride in brilliant sunshine on Sunday was Dennis Smith who climbed well end enjoyed the technical features to finish 10th Super-Vet.
The last race of the day saw Jim Vernon and Dom Switzer compete in the Junior race, they took to the course at the same time as the elite field which included most of the country’s top riders so some great riding was on display.
After last week’s race Dom had the better gridding but both riders had a good start and were in the race. Great results from the both, Jim 13th and Dom 15th. The next round is back up in Scotland in 3 weeks.
Thanks Dom.
