Denis reports:
“We set off early to Ipswich at 7.15 am in freezing conditions for the two hour journey, encountering snow at Bury St Edmonds and wondering if this was what was in store at Ipswich but it soon passed and so a freezing cold wind was what waited for us, not at all what we have been used to.
It was an early race at 11.15 and with 98 riders on the start line I was lucky to get a fifth row gridding and a good start followed on a stretch of a few hundred metres of tarmac .
There were plenty of obstacles to vie with, two bridges a flight of steps and a set of boards two planks high to get over, some sticky mud but not deep enough or too demanding to hold back a mountain biker, a 50 min race for me, 40th overall, 5th vet60 and a first place in the 70+ category and also first in the 75+, so I think this makes me the Eastern area 70+ plus champion”.
