We meet at Church Langton (other locations annouced in the forum) at 18:45 and do 3 laps of the Welland Valley (Cranoe, Welham, Weston, Medbourne, Slawston) at a 'moderate' pace (20mph) starting steady and building the speed up as we go on giving everyone a good workout and to test themselves and see how long they can hang on for. Everyone works as a team and takes their turn on the front, if the pace is too fast there is the option to take a shortcut or just sit on the back and shelter.
The Chain Gang is a training ride targeted towards the development of bunch racing that has many benefits for the rider:
Riding in a group
Staying close to a wheel
Developing skills of moving through and across a pack of riders
Managing a change of pace
Possibly working harder than you would by yourself.
If you like working hard on the bike and you enjoy riding in a group, then that is reason enough to take part. If you have an interest in Road Racing and intend racing at some point, then the chain gang could help you reach your goal.
Meet at Church Langton School THURSDAYS 6.30 - 6.45pm to start riding at 6.45pm and follow the following course:
From Church Langton school - Proceed to Thorpe Langton, then Welham and then to turn right to Weston by Welland and do Three circuits on the chain gang course (Weston by Welland, left to Medbourne, left to Slawston, left to Cranoe, Left to Welham and around again). When passing through Cranoe for the third time, instead of going left to Welham at Cranoe, carry straight on and turn left up to Church Langton and the school car park to complete the course.
On some occasions the course may change... just for a bit of variety, so please keep checking the updates on the website.
Chaingang Training sessions are open to all club members and that welcome is warmly extended to riders from other clubs in the surrounding area. The intent here is to continue to develop that cycling community spirit and to help nurture the growth of road racing.
For your safety it would be prudent to ride with a rear light. A helmet is also advisable when riding in a group. However, Tri-bars should not be fitted and definitely not used.
