Although not an official club run there is a social cycle ride on a Sunday morning, usually starting at 9.30 am from outside the village hall in Medbourne, but the time and place is confirmed each week by e-mail, and some weeks we may start a short car drive away to cycle new areas - or start later (or not at all) if the weather is bad.
There are usual about 10 of us, including several ladies.
In winter we aim to do about 35-45 miles, 45-50 miles in summer, average speed 12-14 mph, and be back by about 1pm. It is purely a social ride and, within reason, we do not leave people behind. Most of us stop for a drink in the pub, and some stay for lunch. The lunch venue may vary.
Club members or potential members wishing a shorter and slower ride than the main club run are very welcome to join us but to avoid misunderstanding they should be clear that:
- the pace is 12-14 mph, average
- this is not a training ride ( although it's good for base fitness, and recovery from training rides)
- "half-wheeling", i.e. riding with your front wheel half a wheel in front of the rider alongside so that the pace gets quicker and quicker, is not acceptable.
-each week there is a designated leader who plans the route, sets the pace and leads the ride.
-everyone is expected to carry basic tools and spare tubes to deal with punctures etc.
There are similar rides, about 25-30 miles, on Wednesday and Thursday evenings April to September, leaving from a pub car park – the venue varies from week to week and is circulated by e-mail. Starting time 6:30pm. There are also usually 5 and 15 mile rides on Wednesdays.
We are pleased to welcome newcomers, male or female . For Sundays or Thursdays please contact:
